Plastic Sheet Materials

Understanding the unique properties and advantages of each plastic material to help you make the right choice for your application.

HDPE

High-Density Polyethylene

Reasons for choosing HDPE sheets over other materials:

Exceptional Durability

HDPE is incredibly resistant to moisture, chemicals, rot, and insects. Unlike wood, it will not splinter, peel, or rust, making it a low-maintenance and long-lasting alternative to metal and many plastics.

Weather and UV Stability

Unlike many other plastics, marine-grade HDPE is specifically formulated to withstand continuous exposure to harsh sunlight and saltwater environments without degrading, fading, or becoming brittle.

Versatility and Safety

HDPE sheets are easy to machine and fabricate into a wide range of products, from dock fenders and boat components to playground equipment. Its non-absorbent surface is also ideal for safety-critical applications.

FRP

Fiber-Reinforced Polyester

Reasons for choosing FRP sheets over other materials:

Exceptional Durability and Impact Resistance

FRP sheets are incredibly strong due to the embedded fiberglass fibers, making them highly resistant to impacts, scratches, and dents. This durability is far superior to materials like drywall or other plastic sheets, making them ideal for high-traffic areas and industrial uses.

Superior Hygiene and Cleanliness

FRP has a non-porous surface that is highly resistant to moisture, mold, mildew, and bacteria growth. It's very easy to clean and can be wiped down with most cleaning agents, making it a popular choice for environments that require strict sanitation.

Excellent Chemical and Corrosion Resistance

Unlike metal or wood, FRP does not rust, rot, or corrode when exposed to harsh chemicals, cleaning solutions, or humidity. This makes it a long-lasting and low-maintenance option for corrosive environments.

PC

Polycarbonate

Reasons for choosing clear PC sheets over other materials like glass or acrylic:

Best Impact Resistance of Clear Sheets

PC sheets are virtually unbreakable, offering up to 250 times the impact resistance of glass and 30 times that of acrylic. This makes them ideal for safety applications like machine guards, protective barriers, and windows in high-impact environments.

High Thermal Resistance

PC sheets can withstand a wider range of temperatures than many other plastics without deforming or melting. It has excellent heat resistance and is inherently flame-retardant, making it suitable for automotive, aerospace, electrical insulators and commercial buildings.

Lightweight and Easy to Work With

PC sheets are significantly lighter than glass while being tougher. This makes it easier to handle, transport, and install, and it can also be cold-formed or bent on-site for complex designs without the need for heat.

PVC

Polyvinyl Chloride

Cost-Effectiveness and Durability

More affordable than other solid polymer sheets while offering excellent longevity and resistance to weather, moisture, rot, and corrosion.

Lightweight and Easy to Work With

Significantly lighter than metal and wood, easier to transport, handle, and install. Can be easily cut, drilled, shaped, and joined using standard tools.

Versatility

Available in wide range of colors, finishes, and thicknesses. Easy to print directly on PVC sheets. Many grades are fire-retardant and UV resistant.

Also available in foamed PVC form for dropped sealing and signage (½ the weight, but still easy to print)

PMMA

Polymethyl Methacrylate

Exceptional Clarity and UV Resistance

PMMA (acrylic/Plexiglass) is one of the clearest materials available, with up to 92% light transmission. Excellent resistance to UV light - won't yellow or become brittle over time.

Lightweight, Impact-Resistant, Safer than Glass

Less than half the weight of glass, significantly more impact-resistant. When it breaks, cracks into large, dull pieces rather than dangerous shards.

Ease of Fabrication

Very easy to fabricate and machine. Can be sawed, drilled, milled, and thermoformed without losing optical clarity. Polished edges can be restored with simple techniques.

ABS

Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene

High Impact Resistance

Exceptionally tough and durable, ideal for products that need to withstand heavy use, impacts, and rough handling without cracking or breaking. Used in luggage, toys (LEGO bricks), and automotive parts.

Ease of Fabrication and Versatility

Easily thermoformed, molded, and machined. Compatible with various adhesives and can be painted, allowing for custom designs and professional finish.

Cost-Effective

More economical than high-performance plastics like polycarbonate. Low cost combined with excellent mechanical properties makes it popular for prototyping and mass production.

UHMWPE

Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene

Extreme Wear and Abrasion Resistance

Incredibly low coefficient of friction and highly resistant to wear, often outlasting steel in abrasive environments. Ideal for sliding parts, chute linings, and conveyor guides.

Superior Impact Strength

Among all thermoplastics, UHMWPE offers the highest impact strength. Can absorb significant blows without cracking, making it reliable for dock fenders, body armor, and impact plates.

Chemical and Moisture Resistance

Highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, moisture, and UV radiation. Won't absorb water or break down when exposed to harsh substances.
